When we become parents we put our children before everything. We put it before ourselves and our spouse and that can have lasting effects on both of you. I believe it is important to always remember why you fell in love with one another. Keeping that love in focus I believe can keep your relationship healthy and happy. Dating your spouse may sound a bit strange, but it is important to keep your love alive. Over time we change our personality and if we are not connecting with our spouse, how can they learn to love who we are becoming? Taking time to be alone with one another will help keep you emotionally and physically connected. Thus, making us better parents because we are taking time to unwind and not lose our shit.
My Husband may be away for long periods of time, but we still find ways to have date nights. Dates happen when he comes home and sometimes they even happen when he is on the road. We value the time together and always find a way to make it work. For a while we would be stuck on new date ideas or nothing would sound interesting. A few years ago I was scrolling through Pinterest and came across this date jar and jumped right into making one. It was by far not the prettiest thing I have ever created, but it was exactly what we were looking for. If we found ourselves struggling to come up with something to do, we would turn to the jar. We picked a color to suit our mood and whatever was on the stick was our date for the night or that week.
Here are the materials you will need if you want to make your own date jar:
